BOZ Group doubles its robot welding capacity
With the recent commissioning of 2 Yaskawa robot welding cells, each with 2 workstations with rotating axes, the BOZ Group in Bergen op Zoom has significantly expanded its welding capacity. In addition, the possibility has been created to add another 3rd similar welding cell.
BOZ Group specializes in the manufacture of industrial high-quality precision sheet metal constructions, assemblies and compositions for, among others, the food industry, the agricultural industry, the medical and pharmaceutical industry, the electrical engineering industry and machine and equipment construction. This makes the company an important sheet metal producer in Europe. “This investment is necessary to meet the increased demand for robot welding capacity,” says Corné van Opdorp, Managing Director of metal company BOZ Group.
The installation
In the production hall, 3 places of 4.6 x 6 meters have been created for the 3 robot welding cells. Two of them are now in operation. The third build-up is in preparation. The installations each consist of a Yaskawa welding robot type MA 2010 with manipulator type RWV2-500-2000-1200 with 2 workstations each with a rotating axis with a clamping space of 2 meters between the discs. Behind a screen, the operator can assemble the welding parts in the welding mold, while the welding robot welds the other assembly on the other side of the screen. This keeps downtime to a minimum. A manual control is also provided, so that the operator can manually rotate the external axis on which he loads and unloads the workpiece for a better loading position.
Why Yaskawa?
For welding technology, the Fronius pulsating power source of the TPS320i CMT type has been chosen, which can supply 320A at a duty cycle of 40%. CMT stands for Cold Metal Transfer, a proven Fronius welding technique with little heat input. Furthermore, the welding torch is equipped with an internal torch cleaner with wire cutter. The robot is equipped with a touch sensor with which the exact location of the weld seam can be detected. “We had been familiar with the robot welding technique for years through our 3 Cloos welding cells and a Motoman welding robot from Yaskawa, all of which have always functioned to our full satisfaction”, says Peter Huijgens, Operations Director at BOZ Group. “It is mainly the support from Yaskawa in the field of trouble-shooting and training that made us decide to continue with this brand. So far we have been very satisfied with the performance ”.
